The thermocouple head is an important part of the construction of an accurate thermocouple system. The head is used to house the thermocouple terminal block. The block also connects the thermocouple element to the extension wire. The heads function is two fold. To protect the connections from the elements. It also maintains a constant temperature around the connections.
Thermocouple heads are available in a variety of materials and NPT process thread sizes. We stock metal heads in Aluminum, Cast Iron, Stainless Steel, Brass, and Nickel Plated Steel. We also stock plastic heads in Polypropylene, Delrin, and Nylon.

NEMA Ratings
The NEMA ratings for heads are listed to help select the proper head for your application. The most common NEMA Ratings for heads are NEMA Type 2, 4, and Type 4X. Definitions from the National Electrical Manufacturers Association Classification. Detailed in NEMA 250-1997 shown below.
√ NEMA 2: Indoor use to provide personnel protection against incidental contact with the enclosed equipment. Provide protection against falling dirt, dripping or light splashing water.
√ NEMA 4: Indoor or outdoor use to provide protection from falling dirt, rain, sleet, snow, windblown dust, splashing water, hose directed water. The formation of ice on the outside of the head will not cause damage.
√ NEMA 4X: Indoor or outdoor use to provide protection from falling dirt, rain, sleet, snow, windblown dust, splashing water, hose directed water, and corrosion. The formation of ice on the outside of the head will not cause damage.
